Don’t be Scammed by Data Entry Opportunities

You can end up the victim of a data entry opportunity scam without really trying to. You can put yourself right in the path of a mailing list by filling out a form. Data entry opportunity scams use lists to get the names of the people they need to begin mailing. Once you are on their list, be ready to receive a load of information.

Sites like Craigslist are a easy target for these data entry business scams. They are listed among jobs that are legitimate. They use your city and information that seems to come from someone in your city. Once you send them your information, you have placed your name on the list. The list will be sold more than once as they do not care how many emails you receive.

If you decide to apply for a job you see on Craigslist, here are a few tips:

  • The job contains no information that would be known only by a resident. Job postings include some information that will key you in to what part of town they are in. A real employer knows that if a job is across town, you may not want to apply for it. They know that when they do contact you as a candidate, you will want to know. A data entry job scam will not have anything that gives you town information in the posting.
  • No point of contact. When you apply for a job, you often have someone to send your resume to or phone. If it is a blind ad, it may just give an email address or tell you to send it to Human Resources. Data entry opportunity scams don’t have that information.
  • When do you start? Data entry opportunity scams will be very vague with start information or look as if they required you last week. Most employers know that the process will take a few weeks, so they don’t appear like they will have to close until you get there. If you don’t give notice, you aren’t the kind of employee they want. Scam artists do not have a real job waiting for you so they will state whatever they have to for you to provide your information.

The ad will make the position sound so good that you won’t care that something doesn’t seem right. It seems most people are looking for new opportunities. The data entry opportunity scams seem great when you read them. Once you read it, you will send your resume. You will be so excited that you will get your resume together and send it to them straight away. You will feel confident that you will receive a call back. This type of ad gives false hope to the person who applies. And once they do apply, they are hit with all types of spam in their inbox and even at the home address that they put on the resume.
